Staten Island

Fear feeds it. We can’t be afraid.

I grew up in Staten Island, NY which has a few haunted  locations including my house.

Nighttime always made me feel uncomfortable and many nights I lay awake petrified. I had a strong sense of something unworldly around me. I never mentioned it to my parents because I thought they wouldn’t believe me.

One winter night while my father and brother were away, the downstairs living room light turned on and off several times. The dog which always slept downstairs came running up and then the noises started. Footsteps, items moving, creaking. My mom is a deep sleeper but she also woke up and knew something wasn’t right. I begged her not to go downstairs but she told me “Fear feeds it. We can’t be afraid.” I never forgot those words. My mom knew we had some sort of entity and she wasn’t going to let it scare us. By the time she got downstairs the activity stopped.
We had several incidents, including my bother waking up to a spirit floating over him, the tv and lights going on and off at night, strange smells and sounds.

In a way those experiences made me embrace nighttime and everything spooky and unknown.
