Clairvoyant Word Origin

"having psychic gifts, characterized by powers of clairvoyance," 1837, earlier "having insight" (1670s), from special use of French clairvoyant "clear-sighted, discerning, judicious" (13c.), from clair (see clear (adj.)) + voyant "seeing," present participle of voir, from Latin videre "to see" (from PIE root *weid- "to see").

Clairvoyant History

In French, "clairvoyant" translates to "clear-seeing," mentally or visually. In English during the 17th century, the term was used as an adjective to describe someone with a particularly keen sense of perception. Clairvoyant became a more widely used term during the 19th century. Today, clairvoyant can be used to describe someone who exhibits ESP. Clairvoyant Definition

A clairvoyant, or someone with the ability to experience psychic phenomena in a visual way, differs from the other three types of psychic experiences. Those means of communication are- clairaudience, clairscentience and clairgustance. A person may possess one or more of these gifts, but what distinguishes such abilities is the way the person(medium or psychic) receives their messages.
