Daemon is the Latin word for the Ancient Greek daimon (δαίμων: "god", "godlike", "power", "fate"). Originally referring to a lesser deity or guiding spirit in Greek religion and mythology. This definition extended into later Hellenistic religion and philosophy before it’s more modern meaning.

modern meaning

Early depiction of a carved daemon mask

Similar to the Jinn in Muslim mythology, original interpretations of the daemon could be either good or evil. This mask would have been worn in a ritualistic dance celebrating the good and the evil that each human possesses. Some cultures believe you must worship both sides in order to maintain a balance in the forces of nature.

not always what it seems

Although the term demonic is most commonly associated with the devil or demonic possession, it is but one rendition of the meaning. This blog intended to explore a more meaningful explanation, history and context. Our decaf was named after this for its misunderstood past. Decaf coffee has been chemically altered in mass production leaving the beans stripped of caffeine, nutrients and flavor. For our Daemonic Decaf, we use a Swiss Water process. The beans are decaffeinated naturally without the use of harsh chemicals. This allows the flavor of our beans as well as the balanced roast to shine through in each cup. So much like it’s name sake, things aren’t always dark or light.
